What is the harm in publicizing yourself? - Ashish Kaul
Ashish Kaul who has been part of the Television industry for the last 17 years has done shows like Kasautii Zindagi Kii, Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii on Star Plus, Kkusum on Sony TV. The actor who has stayed loyal to the television industry for many years now has never ventured into movies at all. He has also been seen in Savdhaan India @11 on Life OK, Haunted Nights on Sahara One, Crime Patrol and CID on Sony TV in episodic roles. TellyBuzz decided to speak to him about his decision on portraying cameo roles in the shows and what keeps him away from daily soaps. When asked Ashish about being a part only of episodics, he opines, "The reason I do episodics is that it's quite convenient for me to act in episodic as I can be with my family either in Delhi or Lucknow. I don't throw any tantrums on the sets because being a professional actor it is not right on my part to behave in the wrong manner and also I don't hike my rate for unnecessary reasons like other actors do. I shoot for an episodic because the role is sufficient enough to portray on screen." He spoke about his take on being committed to television, "I don't do daily soaps now because I am not willing to work for 25 days a month and if I do so then I will not be able to give time to my family. Moreover it makes no sense to do daily soaps, as my role is not sufficient enough. Daily soaps have lead actors who are the base of the show." We asked Ashish whether he was banned from the episodics for revealing stories of the episodic shows and he clarified, "To be honest, people from the production house don't actually do our publicity, so I simply tell about my cameo roles and if the production house feels I am doing wrong it's their call. I am doing it for the channel, for the show and for myself. What's the harm in doing your own publicity, but I would also like to say that I was never banned from doing episodic or cameos. In fact I remember that I was told to take up Bani-Ishq Da Kalma show on Colors wherein my costume, my look in the show had even got finalized but unfortunately they took someone else as I was not in Mumbai. It was the channel's call and there was nothing like I was banned or anything." Ashish shared with TellyBuzz, "I would like to say that I will soon be seen playing a pivotal role in CID, where I will play the villain in the show. However, there are several instances wherein I have played negative shades in the episodic and I have actually loved portraying the same in the episodic." He further said, "I have never done movies as I am happy doing episodics and cameos. The reason being, I feel comfortable with cameo roles and would continue doing that. People often ask me about future plans and I say that you will find me in some or the other episodic." Way to go Ashish!!
